I graduated with a B.S. degree from an accredited 4 year university to barely live through a dot com crash by utilizing my web development skills for small cash jobs for friends and family. But as my skills grew the jobs I took on grew and so did the money. I created my own LLC, made business cards, and even had a sales office to meet clients. I bought a home to enjoy some tax benefits and even got the car of my dreams. So I'm successful right? Wrong. This was just the beginning.
My little company turned into a fulltime job. It owned me. With over 50 clients to manage, my time was spent. When you add that up over a month, it started to take-away all the time I had to do what I do best, build! But how can I possibly build when I'm fielding calls from clients, making simple monotonous changes to their website and other digital media. It all takes time, and without any employees to support me I would loose my time. So I hired, and trained, and lost those people that I trained over time. I was forced back to thinking, "maybe just being alone is the best way to go". And then it happens, I hit that glass ceiling again when I pick up 3 or 4 great paying jobs and don't have enough time to do them all myself. Jobs get sent away or put on hold and end up loosing a new client that is unwilling to wait it out.
Let's face it, the client should be paying for a service that is available for them. And if I was the client I would want to know that there is more than just one person working on my project. And what if something was to happen to that one person? Is the money I paid for my project wasted?
So after careful consideration and talking with my friends, family, small business owners, clients, and other professionals, it became clear to me what needed to be done. We, as a world, need a consistent and universal medium for getting digital media created, managed, and updated. Businesses, professionals, and just the everyday person need a company that will be available to them, and one day we will be a 24 hour available company every day, even holidays! And then I thought of The Web Squad. We are a group of professionals who are all experts in our specific digital media fields. We work together because we are stronger in numbers and because we exist to help one another become even better. In return, our clients get access to the best of the best. And our clients can rest at night knowing they pay a fair price for their digital media solutions and know that regardless of one developer or any one project managers' workload, the clients project is priority number 1.
At the same time I realized that this was my saving grace. I needed a solution to place my clients into that would survive me. And I needed my clients to be happy clients.
